Screenwriter/Director Wes Anderson |
American Screenwriter and Director, Wes Anderson was commissioned to direct two commercials for Hyundai's Azera 2012—just in time to air during Oscar night, this passed Sunday. So if you thought you caught a commercial that resembled the film aesthetic than that of auteur, Anderson, it certainly wasn't a far-fetched association.
Anderson is known for instilling a distinct quality to his films: he bestows upon the big screen worlds subsisting on the grounds of intricate and humorous storytelling—forming a life of their own—fully animated and filled with wittiness and irony.
Among his most celebrated are The Royal Tenenbaums, (in which he was nominated for an Oscar in Best Original Screenplay in 2001), Fantastic Mr. Fox, (for which he won an Oscar for Best Animated Feature), and The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, (Anderson's homage to the works of Jacques Cousteau).
Anderson has previously done commercials before: a series of six commercials for AT&T back in 2007, an American Express commercial, which he features in as well, from 2006 (see below), and a Japanese commercial for cell-phones, which he did with Brad Pitt in 2008, ( also featured watch below). Have a watch at the two commercials (featured above), Talk To My Car and Modern Life (featured right), and see if you can recognize some Wes Andersonims.
