Former French Vogue Editor-in-Chief, Carine Roitfeld, is just trying to enjoy her life these days, as a fashion civilian, a couture admirer, and The Client with an un-revoked backstage pass, of course.  In this newly short-documentary of the controversial fashion icon, Roitfeld shows us the behind the scenes interactions between her and some of the most prominent fashion designers in the industry during Paris Fashion Week (via and for W Magazine).  Among some of the designers making cameos are: Karl Lagerfeld, Giorgio Armani, and up-and coming designer, Bouchra Jarrar, (which Roitfeld made time to fit into her schedule to support the new talent).

The film exudes a fun atmosphere, rather than the usual tense nature of fashion week — although some of the designers seem to be in utter confusion when she mentions she's there as an independent buyer (at least for the W shoot) —not having realized that she is now posing as a "client." The challenge according to Roitfeld, is to remind herself to, "have to find a way to go to these fashion houses and still be myself," she admitted — having served a ten year  tenture as the top fashion editor at French Vogue from 2001-2011 — which has obviously classically  conditioned her to look at clothing for editorial purposes rather than personal preference.

Nevertheless, the 57 year old fashion icon in her own right, appears to be thrilled—becoming quite animated whilst describing the difference between what it's like to go to fashion shows as a fashion editor — versus attending the shows to buy for your own self-indulgence. Have a watch at Carine Roitfeld in the recently released, The Client (video featured above) to see how the former French fashion authority handles becoming a W Mag guinea pig and editorial feature.   Plus check out the final product by photographer Paolo Roversi for W Magazine (October issue).
