Today a new kind of book species is born: Al Gore's Our Choice: Our Plan to Solve the Climate Crisis (the sequel to The Inconvenient Truth), published by Push Pop Press. Application developers, Push Pop released their latest invention, which they refer to as "The Next Generation of Digital Books."
Push Pop Press is a digital publishing platform, who now strive to re-invent the landscape of the book publishing industry. They offer their newly designed tool to other publishers to utilize for their authors--(they are currently working extensively with Melcher Media--Charlie Melcher is also a partner and curator of the content for Push Pop). By incorporating the text with interactive graphics, images, videos, audio--all in the power of touch screen--the innovative publishing house has re-imagined, and thereby has inevitably re-defined our future and now our present experience of digesting books. Today their first interactive-media-creation, hits the iTunes stand; Our Choice by Al Gore is part of the former Vice President's continued work on Global Warming in the form of interactive text. Here's what Push Pop has to say in their press release for Our Choice:
Our Choice will change the way we read books. And quite possibly change the world. In this interactive app, Al Gore surveys the causes of global warming and presents groundbreaking insights and solutions already under study and underway that can help stop the unfolding disaster of global warming. Our Choice melds the vice president's narrative with photography, interactive graphics, animations, and more than an hour of engrossing documentary footage. A new, groundbreaking multi-touch interface allows you to experience that content seamlessly. -- Push Pop Press
We must admit we're incredibly excited for this new form of storytelling. We've been expecting this next phase in the digital revolution to come. And today, is the first step towards that direction. Imagine how the newest generation will read textbooks, and how storytellers of today can now experiment, pioneer, and continue to invite their audience to be on the receiving end on this craft we call the art of telling the story. There are some romantics who mourn the pending out-phasing of the paper and hard backs. But how fitting is it--that a book on climate change--is the very topic that challenges a new and inviting way to devour information, sans the guilt of mass producing more paper that our environment can't really afford.
