Even with this cold weather, Rooftop Films (a summer promoter of outdoor-film-watching) has been busy organizing interesting film screenings to support the indie film scene here in New York. Just this past December, the Rooftop orchestrated an underground screening--literally: The show was held underneath the Atlantic Avenue tunnel (see images below), which got loads of press attention for its gutsy and creative attempt to think out of the movie theater box. This seems to be the rising quiet movement happening in the film screening industry--there's been some experimental film events in Berlin as well. See HERE.
This weekend, Rooftop is offering a free film screening at the Ace Hotel, which is just as well--we're certainly not complaining. The movie feature is called get this: Cold Weather, a selection at SXSW, the film will be released by IFC in February. Below is the trailer and the event details. Happy movie watching! Other recommendations for indies this weekend is Biutiful, with the incomparable Javier Bardem.
