A NEW YEAR'S EVE FIREWORKS IN CENTRAL PARK FOR 2011

Minutes before the strike of 2011 in Central Park

Every year on New Year's Eve, there's an underrated celebration made of fireworks, a costume party, and a four mile midnight run through Central Park.  The Emerald Nuts Midnight Run, which starts at the strike of the new year, is preceded by some outdoor dancing, is lavished with a costume party, and topped off with pyrotechnics to encourage the runners to embark on their winter run along the park.  This year the crowd was rambunctious, fun, yet respective of personal space--a perfect combination of a carnival, but minus the feeling of being overwhelmed.  Have a look at some captured images of the debauchery, as well as some footage of the fireworks, to get a feel of this understated event--that is compared to the overrated ball dropping in Times Square.
