PHILIP SELWAY FORMER DRUMMER OF RADIOHEAD, HEADS HIS SOLO ALBUM: FAMILIAL

Philip Selway, former drummer of Radiohead, has found his way to the front of the stage this time around.  His new solo album, Familial hits the digital stores on August 31.  Selway, who often came into the recording studio with the rest of the band, excited to try out his own songs wasn't taken seriously.  And thereby, forced to repress them for over 20 years--saving to realize them one day.  He'd hoped for a pivoting opportunity for his future music career, and that time has arrived.

So there you have it, the drummer of Radiohead can sing.  Who knew? Apparently, it's commonly considered outlandish for the drummer of any band to write and sing their own songs, let alone suggest it.  Selway's sound is more of a soothing soft sound mixed with lot of acoustic guitar--perfect for a cloudy day like today to lull you into a comforting contemplation.

Our favorites at second listen are the following: By Some Miracle, Beyond Reason, All Eyes On You and The Witching Hour.  Have a pre-release listen (via NPR) to the full album below (after the jump) and let us know what you think!
